CRYSTMET - The NRCC Metals Crystallographic Data File

CRYSTMET, the National Research Council of Canada Metals Crystallographic Data File, was a computer-readable database of critically evaluated crystallographic data for metals (including alloys, intermetallics and minerals) accompanied by pertinent chemical, physical and bibliographic information. D.T.Cromer and A.C.Larson began compiling the database at Los Alamos in 1960. At the suggestion of W.B.Pearson, A.C.Larson brought the compilation to Canada in 1974 where it was further developed and extended at Ottawa by L.D.Calvert. CRYSTMET was then maintained by the Canadian Scientific Numeric Database Service (CAN/SND) of the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC). Since 1988 MPDS has been vitally involved in the production of CRYSTMET with Pierre Villars being editor until 1995.

In 1995 CRYSTMET was closed by CISTI, NRCC, at the closing date CRYSTMET contained about 60,000 entries. At that date the copyright of CRYSTMET was shared between CISTI, NRCC and MPDS.

PAULING FILE - Inorganic Materials Database and Design System

Pauling File

Since 1996 MPDS is focusing on the PAULING FILE project, which is one of the ongoing efforts to create comprehensive materials databases, a collaborative work with JST (Japan Science and Technology Corporation, Tokyo, Japan). The aim is to build up a new platform for data mining and develop software tools for inorganic materials design.

CD-ROM software development are done in collaboration with Crystal Impact (Bonn, Germany). Project coordination and management are done in collaboration with The University of Tokyo, RACE. Pauling File Data are jointly copyrighted by JST and MPDS. Pauling File CD-ROM Software are jointly copyrighted by Crystal Impact and MPDS.
