Welcome to Material Phases Data System (MPDS). This company was founded in 1981 by Dr. Pierre Villars in Vitznau, Switzerland. Its major aim is to create materials databases. This was done before 1996 in form of handbooks. Since 1996 MPDS is focusing on the PAULING FILE project, which is one of the ongoing efforts to create comprehensive materials databases. Dr. Pierre Villars
Ph.D, Institute for Crystallography ETHZ, Switzerland, 1981. Editor of
CRYSTMET (CISTI, NRCC) from 1988 to 1995. Editor or co-editor of Pearson's
Handbook of Crystallographic Data for Intermetallic Phases (first, second
and desk edition), Atlas of Crystal Structure Types for Intermetallic
Phases and Handbook of Ternary Alloy Phase Diagrams, in total 23 volumes.
Author of over 50 scientific publications. Formerly research scientist at
the Institute of Solid State Physics, ETHZ Switzerland, visiting Research
Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada and visiting
scientist at the National Research Council of Canada, Chemistry Division.
Since 1995 he is editor-in-chief of the PAULING FILE project.
